9 – Let Him Search You | 21 Days of Prayer 2025
Search me, God, and know my heart… lead me in the way everlasting.
Psalm 139:23–24
I had the amazing honor of being the pastor over a wedding, and the groom and I had just arrived to our spot at the front of the room when I turned to the groom and grabbed him in a big hug.
He seemed surprised, because I hadn’t really given him any warning, but what I said to him next explained everything.
“Don’t bring any attention to it, but you need to zip up your fly.”
I kept my arms on his shoulders while he fixed his outfit with his back to the congregation. For all they knew, I was giving him a last-minute pep-talk. Then we turned back to them together just in time for the processional of groomsmen and bridesmaids to begin.
We all need friends who are close enough to us to know when something is wrong, and who are willing to tell us when something needs to change.
King David reflects on this in the Psalm when he confesses that God knows him better than any other person ever could. God knows him better than he knows himself.
And because of that intimate knowledge and deep love, God gently reveals what needs to change when you invite Him close.
Do This: Pray Psalm 139:23-24 slowly (or do the whole Psalm), pausing after each line to thank God and listen for his direction.
Closing Prayer: God, search me and shape me into who You made me to be.
