5 – His Presence Is Rest | 21 Days of Prayer 2025

Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28

There are few things more dangerous than driving a car while sleepy. This is a fact I learned the hard way when I was in college and chose to drive 6 hours through the night to visit my grandparents.

The first few hours weren’t that bad, but 3am in the middle of nowhere while you’re driving alone makes it very difficult to remain alert.

I didn’t know that I was beginning to doze off until my car started vibrating violently because I was driving 80mph over the rumble strips on the side of the highway.

I yanked my steering wheel back into the middle of the road and bolted awake from the adrenaline rush. Once I began to calm down again, I chose the wise course of action and pulled off at a rest stop to take a quick nap before finishing the journey.

Jesus knows that we are a danger to ourselves and others when we are moving through life constantly weary and heavy burdened. And he knows that “just keep going” isn’t a sustainable way to live.

Drawing near to God in prayer is how we pause the pace of our life so that we can enter his peaceful rest to be rejuvenated and then sent out with him to join his work.

Jesus Himself is your rest. You don’t need to fix yourself first—just come to Him.

Do This: Close your eyes and pray for 3-5 minutes, asking Jesus to exchange your weariness for His rest.

Closing Prayer: Jesus, I come to You. Be my rest and my peace.
