Day 10: Thirsting for Truth

O God, you are my God; I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
Psalm 63:1

Have you ever been truly thirsty? It’s a longing that overtakes everything else—a drive for something essential.

In this verse, David compares his deep desire for God to the kind of thirst you feel in a dry and weary land. Fasting has a way of bringing that spiritual thirst to the surface.

When you feel the longing for what you’ve given up, let it be a cue to turn your thoughts to God. Let it remind you that your soul’s greatest need isn’t for food, entertainment, or anything else—it’s for the presence of God. He alone can satisfy the deep thirst in your spirit.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What has fasting revealed about the things you turn to for satisfaction instead of God?
  2. In what ways has your longing during this fast helped you experience God’s presence more deeply?

Ideas for Action:

  1. Pause and Acknowledge: When you feel the longing for what you’re fasting from, take a moment to pray or meditate on Psalm 63:1. Let it guide you into God’s presence.
  2. Drink Deeply: Spend extra time in worship today—whether through music, reading Psalms aloud, or simply sitting in silence with God. Allow Him to quench the thirst in your soul.

Prayer

God, let my hunger and longing during this fast remind me of my greater need for You. Thank You for being the One who satisfies my soul. Help me to seek You above all else and rest in Your presence. Amen.
