Day 3: Rest and Refocus

Today is for contemplative reflection. Here's some thoughts to get your thoughts going, and some questions for you:

Fasting is not just an external act of discipline; it’s an internal shift that opens up space for God to speak, heal, and transform us. In other words, it's not supposed to be "for show."

By removing distractions—whether food, social media, entertainment, or anything else—we allow ourselves the opportunity to focus more clearly on God's voice and His work in our lives.

When we fast, we make room for God to do something new within us. And one way to make room is to practice silence.

The silence we create in our fasting is an invitation for God to speak into the quiet places of our hearts, to reveal what needs to be surrendered or healed, and to deepen our relationship with Him.

As you reflect today, take a moment to consider the specific thing you are fasting from. How does it create space for God to work in your heart? What does it reveal about your priorities, habits, or attachments that might need to be realigned with God’s will?

Reflection Questions:

  1. How do I feel when I remove the thing I’m fasting from? Does it reveal anything about my attachment or reliance on that thing?
  2. What have I learned so far about my need for God and my dependence on His presence in my life?

Ideas for Action

  1. Set aside 10 minutes to sit in complete silence today. Use this time to intentionally focus on God’s presence and listen for anything He may want to say to you.
  2. Share with someone close to you what you’re learning about yourself through this fast. Invite them to pray with you for deeper clarity and guidance in your spiritual journey.
