20 – Pray With Your Family | 21 Days of Prayer 2025
Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road.
Deuteronomy 6:7
I don’t know how to keep plants alive. I inherited my “black thumb” from my mom, though she has grown a bit of a green thumb over the years.
My problem is neglect. I neglect the plants. I forget to water them. I don’t take the time to understand whether they need more or less light. I don’t prune the dead leaves.
The plants grow weaker over time and eventually die. But even a plant that looks practically dead can be revived if you begin to care for it.
My friend recently told a story of a plant that he almost killed until he realized it was supposed to be an outdoor plant. That one simple move (get it closer to sun and water) strengthened the plant and made it thrive better than ever before!
Our faith is similar to that. We grow weak and fragile when we don’t regularly connect to God through prayer. That’s one of the reasons God puts us in families and communities that can remind each other to draw near to God.
We need each other to help us spend time in prayer so that our faith can grow stronger and thrive. And when we pray together with the people we care about the most…it not only strengthens our faith, but it strengthens our bond with them.
Today’s truth: Faith grows stronger when we pray with those closest to us.
Do This: Gather your household—even just one person—and pray aloud together for 5 minutes.
Closing Prayer: Lord, knit our family closer to You through prayer.
