20: Suffering and Resurrection | 21 Days of Prayer & Fasting 2025

Day 20: Suffering and Resurrection
I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the sharing of his sufferings by becoming like him in his death.
Philippians 3:10
Fasting is more than self-denial—it’s an invitation to know Jesus in a deeper way. The Apostle Paul longed not only to experience the power of Christ’s resurrection but also to share in His sufferings. That may seem like a strange desire, but Paul understood something profound: suffering with Christ leads to transformation.
When we fast, we willingly enter a small measure of discomfort. In those moments of hunger, weakness, or longing, we get a glimpse—however faint—of Jesus’ sacrifice. But the beauty of the gospel is that suffering is never the end of the story. Just as Jesus was raised to life, we are invited to experience His resurrection power in our lives.
Every struggle, every moment of hardship, and every act of surrender draws us closer to Jesus. As you fast today, let it be a reminder: Jesus suffered for you, but He also invites you to walk with Him—into suffering, but also into new life.
Reflection Questions:
- How has fasting deepened your understanding of Jesus’ suffering?
- In what areas of your life do you need to experience the power of His resurrection?
- What might it look like to embrace both sacrifice and renewal in your daily walk with Jesus?
Action Steps:
- Reflect on Jesus’ Journey: Spend a few moments meditating on what Jesus endured for you—His suffering, death, and ultimate resurrection.
- Embrace the Power of Surrender: Identify one area in your life where God is calling you to let go of control and trust in His resurrection power.
- Share Your Experience: If fasting has been revealing something new in your heart, consider sharing your journey with a friend or small group.
Prayer
Jesus, I want to know You—not just in the joy of Your resurrection but also in the depth of Your suffering. As I fast, let me draw closer to You. Strengthen me to surrender, transform me through Your power, and renew me in Your presence. Amen.
