PHIL GRONBACH, Pastor Emeritus
Pastor Phil is a 1967 graduate of Luther College with a B.A. in philosophy. He received a Master of Theology Degree from the University of Chicago Divinity School in 1971.
Phil began his ministry as an Assistant Pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church, Des Plaines, Illinois. Following his time at Trinity Lutheran, he served other Illinois parishes: Messiah, Port Byron (1976-1982), the Campbell Hill Parish, Campbell Hill (1982-1989), and St. Paul Lutheran, Sterling. He was called to be Teaching Pastor at New Life in January 2012 and was bestowed the honorable title Pastor Emeritus at the end of 2020.
Pastor Phil enjoys reading, bicycling, and participating in his “Koffee Klatch” each weekday morning. Additionally, he and a group of fellow pastors formed a theological study group in 1991, the “Wittenberg Door.” This gathering has been a prime source of support throughout the years.
Pastor Phil’s best friend and supporter was his wife, Anne. She passed in 2009; they were married 36 years. Through this marriage, his family includes his son, Michael (Isabelle) Gronbach, his daughter Karen (Tom) Winstead, both of whom live in the Chicago suburbs, and his grandchildren: Emily, Olivia, Aiden, Owen, Adalena, Elly, and Oliver.
