phil gronbach, teaching pastor
Pastor Phil is a 1967 graduate of Luther College with a B.A. in philosophy. He received a Master of Theology Degree from the University of Chicago Divinity School in 1971.
Phil began his ministry as an Assistant Pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church, Des Plaines, Illinois. Then he served parishes in Illinois: Messiah, Port Byron (1976-1982), the Campbell Hill Parish, Campbell Hill (1982-1989), and St. Paul Lutheran, Sterling. He was called to be Teaching Pastor at New Life in January 2012.
Pastor Phil reads, bicycles, and enjoys a koffee klatch 10 am each weekday morning. He and a group of fellow pastors formed a theological study group in 1991, the Wittenberg Door, and they have been his prime source of support through the years.
Pastor Phil's best friend and supporter was his wife, Anne. She passed in 2009; they were married 36 years.
His family includes his son, Michael (Isabelle) Gronbach and Karen (Tom) Winstead both of whom live in the Chicago suburbs. His grandchildren are Emily, Olivia, Aiden, and Owen Winstead and Adalena Gronbach.
