Learning
Together 2011-2012- Beginning the week after Labor Day and continuing through the week before Memorial Day, New Life Lutheran Church’s educational ministry, for 3 year old students through adults, take place each Sunday morning from 9:45-10:45. Faithweavers, the curriculum used for the students through sixth grade, provides hands-on Bible lessons, with a Weekly Challenge for each student. The Fall sessions give the students an overview of the Old Testament while the Winter and Spring sessions focus on the New Testament. Our seventh and eighth grade class uses Junior High and Middle School TalkSheets by David Lynn and Middle School Talksheets: Discussions on the Life of Jesus Christ by Terry Linhart for their curriculum. These programs provide stimulating questions that keep in mind the unique challenges faced at this challenging age. The material is presented in a way that aides the students in applying the lessons to their own lives. Our high school class spends their time learning from Alex McFarland’s book, Stand: Core Truths You Must Know for an Unshakable Faith. Using humor and personal stories gained by working with youth, McFarland encourages students to take a stand for Jesus and to build a relationship with our Savior. Throughout the year the class covers the six pillars of biblical Christianity: inspiration of the Bible, the virgin birth, deity of Christ, atonement, and Christ’s resurrection and return. New Life’s educational ministry is always eager to welcome new students. We invite you to “Come and See” what we have to offer. 2010-2011- New Life Lutheran Church kicked off the Sunday school year in September and will continue through May. We offer fun hands-on Bible lessons to anyone from ages 2 years through adults. We are currently using Faithweaver's curriculum which provides an overview of the Old Testament in the fall sessions. The winter and spring sessions focus on the New Testament. We offer special events for the youth in our congregation, as well as the youth in our communities. In August we had a picnic at Oppold Marina with games, boat rides, and horse-drawn wagon rides. In October we watched The Chronicles of Narnia: the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, followed by "Trunk or Treating". We also had a Pizza Packing Party in November after we shopped for items to pack in Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes. In December we had a Sunday School Christmas Program followed by a brunch. We have plans for more exciting activities in 2011. Come and join us! |
